Summary:

With all the new digital books around, I am very happy that. I can carry many books on one small device. I work with special needs kids and having everything in hand is a huge plus. I also try to be as prepared as possible and so I read all the books before I show them to my kids. I was very happy that I read Terry TreetopSeries: Where Is My Home ? before showing it to my kids. This is one book, I will not be reading to them.

Terry Treetop is a cute little boy who loves climbing trees. One day after getting distracted by a little butterfly, he gets lost in the forest. At this point of the story, I would have expected Terry to climb a tree and find his way home. Instead he goes and asks a cute little rabbit. The rabbit invites Terry home. Hello. This is a really bad case of stranger ranger. Terry should not have gone home with the rabbit or tasted his food. Through this book, Terry sees other animals and goes home with them. The more I read, the more disappointed I got. The only animals that saw a problem was the deer. She was a little concerned that the fawn was talking to a stranger but did nothing to stop him.

I really liked that his book taught lot about animals but there are safe ways to do it. As Terri is heading home, he could have bumped into the rabbit eating or seen the beavers home from the top of the trees. He cold have asked the animals for help but begin invited to their homes was a very big breach of stranger danger.

Pros:

  • Cute Illustrations

Cons:

  • Terry went to a strangers home
  • Terry took food form stranger
  • The illustrations were separate from the text

Botton Line:

Kids like a good adventure book. I am all for kids learning about animals but there are certain roads that should not be crossed. I might be a little on the over protective side when it comes to my girls or the children I work with, but teaching kids about safety is very important to me and I felt this book crossed to many boundaries.
