Packing Games for a Weekend at Grandmas
For the 7 year old, she is easy. She loves her dolls so a few of them will go a long way. I usually take two soft ones so she can keep them in her bed at night. When she wakes up early, she can play and let grandma sleep in.
The 11 year old is more difficult. She is not so into dolls so we usually bring a few books. Although this keeps her busy for some time, I like to pack a game that will challenge her during her alone time. A good one she really enjoys has been The Shell Game.
Now that we have morning and alone time taken care of, they like to spend time playing with grandma. Grandma is very old school and has her classics. As an adult I can appreciate Rummy cube Yahtzee but my girls, not so much. My girls like the newer games and grandma does not mind learning a new game or two. As she is older my girls know to pick something fun and simple as to not confuse her with to many rules and instructions. Dodge Dice seemed to be the best option. It is really simple to play and if you are a fan of the older dice games, well this is the perfect combo.
We love spending time with grandma but at the same time, I have to remember my girls are still young. While they can talk to her for a long time, a few days can be a bit much so I find myself packing up some extras. Something for alone time and something to share with grandma. Breaking up the day is super important and on longer visits, I find keeps everyone happy and entertained.
Of course as much fun as they have showing off their games, nothing is more important then when grandma offers to bake with them.
What do you bring when you visit grandma?
What is her favorite game?
